Connect with Scrabble

April 13 is National Scrabble Day. This fun word game has sold over 150 million sets and is translated into 29 languages. Originally named Lexico, Scrabble has been bringing people together for more than 80 years. What is it about this game that brings so many people together?

For me, I have so many fond memories of playing this game with family, friends, and my own kids. Growing up I even played Spanish Scrabble with my very Irish grandmother. She would play this version with her friends to keep her Spanish language skills on point, and she played with me to help me practice my Spanish.

Now that we are socially distancing we can still play this game in various forms with those we may be sheltering in place with, and with those who we miss a whole lot! There are online versions you can play in groups, Words With Friends is a popular variation you can play on your phone, and of course you can also dust off that board game in your closet and play it with your quarantine pals.

Whatever version you play, it is just another way to connect with your friends, family, even your co-workers. Challenge your team to a tournament style virtual round and see who gets crowned Scrabble King/Queen!

Pro tip: Qi is a word, you don't need a U, and it may save you on your next Scrabble game.
