Virtual Wine Tastings

I would 100% rather be at a local winery enjoying a perfect glass of wine than be self isolating right now. But since I am stuck at home, I 100% appreciate the virtual wine tastings being offered by some of my favorite wineries. Now, I fully admit that I am biased here but Clarksburg, CA wines are amazing. My winemaker friends put their heart and souls into every bottle and I fully support their efforts to get creative in this crazy time.
Virtual wine tastings work like this:
- Winery lets everyone know the day/time/wines that will be tasted live via social media streams (i.e. Facebook Live, Instagram Live, etc.)
- Customers then buy the wine flight in advance which is either shipped or picked up curbside. Having the exact wines on hand is not required, but it enhances the virtual tasting experience.
- Winery may even send out a downloadable tasting card for you to take notes as you watch.
- You then decided how you want to show up for this virtual tasting. Do you want to live stream it in the background while you are making dinner, or do you want to make a mini event out of this? I have seen people make this a date night with their quarantine partner and assemble a charcuterie board and get dressed up (i.e. real pants not yoga pants) for these. I have also seen groups of friends do a separate Facebook Watch Party to chat together during the tasting.
- Get online at the designated time and learn from the winemakers about their wines. Is it the same as being at the winery? Of course not. Is it entertaining, fun, informational, and a way to stay connected? Absolutely.
